Falcons White will be all right

There is a very simple formula when dealing with Roddy White: Take everything he says and divide by two.

The very characteristics that have made him the most flammable and prolific of Falcons receivers also make him one of the more unpredictable interviews in a league where everyone’s working on his Bill Belichick imitation. White is quick and flip with a response – kind of like when making a move on cornerback and letting him know about it after the catch (in his prime).

He took a little detour this week and talked about wanting to be more included in the Falcons offense, only in earthier terms. And then just as quickly walk some of it back. Anyone who was more than momentarily bemused hasn’t been paying attention over the last 10-plus seasons.

Again, factor the source as with other of his vocal and social media bursts in the past, and then shrug.

Nothing to see here. Move along.

Excused from practice Wednesday for personal reasons, White will, on his return, play as hard as his 33-year-old body will allow. He doesn’t know any other way.

At his current pace, White would finish with 24 catches this season, for 368 yards and zero touchdowns – unacceptable numbers for the Falcons all-time leading receiver. Numbers that no proud competitor with his resume would be pleased with. Numbers that should grow somewhat in the natural course of a season, even though he is more of a supporting actor than ever before to the Julio Jones/improved running game headliners.

Roddy White is not going to be the typo in this – to date – epic poem of a season. He is not going to be a problem child, sounding the lone discordant note. He is smarter than that.

He may chafe at the new realities of this offense and his role in it, but he’ll adjust. He must. With the wins piling up, belly-aching is a particularly petty sin.

What this little episode did more than anything was to underscore the idea that this is White’s last season wearing officially licensed Falcons game day gear. And that he and we should appreciate each catch, no matter the number, while still possible.

If he's expecting the fans to start shouting for forced changes in an offense that is currently steamrolling everybody it meets, the best thing I can say is that I hope he doesn't hold his breath for it to happen.

As I Stated Before; The only ones who are concerned about Roddy's perceived lack of targeting are the idiot media. After all, complimenting the UNDEFEATED Falcons is a sin and a crime. Hell, THEY BEAT AMERICA'S TEAM!!!!! How dare they. They must be put back in their place. 4-0 indeed. WHO DO THEY THINK THEY ARE?!?!

FALCONS, RISE UP!!!!!!!!!

If this mild outburst is the most off task our team will be this season, we can consider ourselves lucky.

Roddy "me" White needs to keep his mouth shut to the Media... It's T-E-A-M not M-E !

Trade him if you can while you can.... ASP.

Great article! Be patient Roddy, the ball will find you when we need you...and we will need you this year!

Look, all these guys run out of rope at some point.

Move on, White.  The career is done.  Don't hang on until you are summarily fired and no one else takes you...except maybe Dancing With the Stars.

Man up and let other, younger and now better WRs, come in.

Roddy need to run routes similar to TE Gonzalez.  Find the open spot and sit.

@PalmBeachFalcon Which is exactly what he does. He can't throw the ball to himself.

Try really watching and you will see he's open and Matt is not targeting him.

I'm sick of white's attitude..He's all about "me" and to hell with the team!  I wonder why he is still here as a broken down 33 year old receiver who drops at least 2 balls a game and still makes all those stupid penality's

each and every game..He still does not have a clue as to how fortunate he is to be drawing a paycheck on an NFL team!

@sacks Yeah that being the 10000 yard receiver is all about Roddy.

Do you even watch our team?

Or are you just a bandwagon whiner?

Matt will get Roddy the ball. You'll see.

I think Roddie has been an excellent receiver for his career, but he doesn't have the moves to separate himself from a good defensive back.  This was most prevalent in the NFC championship three years ago.  More times than not, he disappears when the games on the line.  However, few teams have a better number two receiver when Jones pulls the best defensive back to him.  He's upset about not getting the ball more, but that's good.  What kind of man would he be if he didn't care?

@Zapp If you really watch the game you will see he's been open often

and Matt is throwing to Julio when not open.

Good riddance.  He hasn't run hard or layed out for a ball in two seasons.  I wouldn't throw the ball to him either.

How could he not be upset? He is getting no targets at all. I don't blame him for wanting to be an active participant in this exciting season. I think he deserves some more looks, personally.

@candlin14

Agreed.  White quit on this team last year and several times made minimal or zero effort to go get the ball when his team needed him.

@jcarson  Pro sports in one of the LAST remaining meritocracies in America - a country made great as a meritocracy.  That, thanks to 'entitlements', isn't true anymore and has destroyed us (witness the last 40 years or so  - especially the last 7).  Pro football doesn't come with an EBT card.  And life shouldn't.

Wrong!!! He doesn't desreve anything. That's the problem. Hankerson is better. Plain and simple. No one DESERVES anything. If Roddy wants more catches, tighten up on your routes and find space. What an idiot talking like this when the team is undefeated!

@candlin14

Exactly how does someone not healthy enough be better? It's really easy if the QB is throwing the ball to you. The ball with Hankerson is really good at dropping.

It's pretty easy to see what your agenda is. Watch Fox all the time much?

@Ald420 @Hot_Harley_guy  Ald420 - would that be, 'you're a moron'?  Remember the old saying about speaking up and removing all doubt?

Take it easy Roddy...I have a feeling you'll be needed a lot more before the season is over.
